Prediabetes presents a set of abnormal body processes that eventually lead to Type 2 Diabetes. The known risk factors for prediabetes have been increasing in the population. These are Obesity ,Overweight and being physically inactive.

Awareness of these risk factors has greatly increased over time. Overwhelming evidence has shown that the risk factors for Prediabetes and Diabetes originate mostly in our diet and our lifestyle.

Below, I will outline the kinds of foods that one should eat and some foods one should in order to stop prediabetes and prevent Type 2 Diabetes disease.

Foods to eat to Halt prediabetes

Non starchy  vegetable foods

These foods include vegetables like spinach, pepper Amaranths cabbages mushrooms, egg plants, cayenne, broccoli and a whole host of vegetables.

Most vegetables have low levels of starch a main source of glucose. Eating these foods more than their starchy counterparts will give your body less glucose at a time and thus reduce the risk of developing Prediabetes.

Remember taking in sugar drives your body towards insulin resistance which is the driver of all the risk factors of prediabetes.

Spinach

Fruits

Fruits that have a low amount of Glucose /fructose prevent Prediabetes .The Phytochemicals in them help the body to properly metabolize blood sugar, but also enable the body to remove some harmful chemicals.

One needs to be cautious when eating fruits, because some fruits have a lot of sucrose that can result into a raise in your blood sugar. Fruits are best eaten whole, do not crush them into juices. Fruit juices contain a lot of released sugars into the liquid form, such sugars are bad for prediabetes or diabetes.

Lean Protein

Lean protein sources include; chicken, Turkey, Tofu, soya, Eggs and Low fat Yogurt.

Protein are an excellent alternative to sugar as a source of energy. Consuming more protein than sugar based diets helps to prevent prediabetes.

Whole Grains

Whole grains have a lot of fiber and less sugar content than the bolted grains. Bolted grains loose the bran and most fiber content and what remains is pure starch content.

Fine Starch is not good for your  body if you want to prevent Prediabetes. Whole grains have good fiber that regulates the rate of absorption of sugar into your body. This slow process of sugar absorption is good for Prediabetes and Diabetes prevention.

Water

If you want to be prediabetes or diabetes free, water is your best choice for beverage. Avoid at all costs sweetened beverages. The sugar in these beverages will just jumpstart your body to prediabetes status in a short time.

Foods to avoid to halt prediabetes

Processed foods;

Processed foods include foods Such as packaged snacks, packaged meat, chips, sweets, breads pastas and most fast foods. All foods taken out of their natural state and loaded with preservatives, sugar and salt to give them a good taste and a longer shelf life will do you more harm. They lead to chronic inflammation and eventually to disorganized body metabolism of sugar.

Trans fats

These are fats hidden in all foods that are fried, and containing mainly processed seed oils. The production of industrial seed oils from; sunflower, canola, soy and corn, leads to formation of harmful fats called Trans Fats. New evidence is pointing to Trans Fats as the main culprit in causing metabolic syndrome.

Sugary loaded Drinks

Such drinks should be stopped by all who desire to halt prediabetes. These are many on the market and have fancy promotional ads but for your good health, you must shun the temptation to take them.

Alcohol

The use of alcohol has been shown to cause problems with the liver and spleen. Though some scientists say alcohol use may be beneficial for the heart, a big number of medical specialists agree that alcohol use is not necessary. For any one who wants to avoid suffering from prediabetes and Type 2 Diabetes, it is very prudent to stop alcohol use.

These food recommendations if combined with an active lifestyle will greatly reduce your risk of developing prediabetes or advancing from prediabetes to Type 2 diabetes.
